Can you beat a traditional fruit cake, marzipan and icing?

Lots of nuts and sour cherries in this one and stacks of sherry and brandy before and after cooking. A well fed cake!

So I made mince pies!!!

Those of you who know me know I am rubbish at pastry so never really make it.

First time in 21 years Farmer Will has had some homemade ones in the house.

I had made the Mincemeat back in September.
Had a dummy run with some shop pastry and then though - I can do this!

So I took my time, put some Carols on, had a Gin, remembered wise words from Gran - she said I needed to chill my pastry more as I have warm hands, let things all rest in the fridge, hot oven and voila!

They were pretty damn good.
I may make them next year to sell.
They were ‘ansum he said.

Thank you all for supporting me - Porsham Cakes as a hobby and business for the last 14 years.

The diary is now closed for large decorated cakes - I will only be making them for family and friends.

Brownies, Brownies by post, Sinnerbuns & Cream Teas can still be ordered as they fit easily around things and I would be delighted to make sugar flowers for you if you wave the credit card at me or bring gin.

I now look forward to being part of your special days and events with a tad less pressure.

In January I started a part time Art and Design FDAD course at West Dean College, West Sussex with thoughts of possibly continuing on to the BA.

Throughout 2023 I have taken on fewer cake commissions, regained my a small social life and Saturday’s (no more Wedding cake deliveries), got up to my elbows in thread, wool, paper, felt, paint, printing ink and PVA glue and have loved it all!!

What started as an idea to gain additional skills on the cake front has now changed and for the time being, I am going to give my Art practice more time and space to see how it develops - possibly into an Artist working on and with paper instead of icing??

Katrina - thank you for teaching me the art of the sugar flower and love to @mbecker46 for my first paid commission.

To my suppliers - @businessthinkdigital @tasteofthewestflc @fooddrinkdevon @links_magazines @wedmagazine @dartprintltd @forest_produce you are brilliant and we will continue along together as I change direction slightly.

@mjbuckett, @maggiesmithartist and @beckydodmanwainwright - you wonderful people - thank you for helping me on my new path, for the skills, patience (!) advice and laughs. I am very very lucky!!
